“When I could escape from the jewelry store, my studio was my shelter.
The paints danced on the palette, the colours interlaced on the canvas.
In the room next door, the rhythm of my mother's sewing machines,
surrounded by coloured cloths, threads, zips, buttons…
But the horn of the fishmonger broke the rhythm at midday.
It was a frenetic race for the day's fish, the cheapest of course,
because our money was living in shadows tones.”
